The Universal Data Element Framework (UDEF) provides the foundation for building an enterprise-wide controlled vocabulary. It is a standard way of indexing enterprise information that can produce big cost savings. UDEF simplifies information management through consistent classification and assignment of a global standard identifier to the data names and then relating them to similar data element concepts defined by other organizations. The UDEF Explorer allows the user to search through the UDEF definitions and easily build up a UDEF identifier following information architecture principles. It uses the current version of the OpenGroup published standard to facilitate this process but also allows for extension of the model based upon specific customer requirements which may not be catered for in the standard.*
